Save Your Heart With Grapes
Eating grapes can save your heart, especially if you are a man. A recent study has led to the conclusion that grapes help reduce key factors that cause heart disease in men. Factors like blood pressure, blood flow and inflammation can be brought under control with a regular consumption of grapes. The heart-saving property of grapes is due to the presence of polyphenols, which provide all these benefits.
The study, published in the Journal of Nutrition, was conducted in a placebo-controlled environment with a random sample of men aged between 30 and 70 years. All these men had metabolic syndrome. Dr. Maria Luz Fernandez and Jacqueline Barona, a Ph. D. student in Dr. Fernandez' laboratory led the study at the Department of Nutritional Sciences at the University of Connecticut.
Metabolic syndrome is one of the major health concerns in the US and this study was a maiden attempt to study the metabolic benefits of grapes. Fernandez said that the study results clarified that "consuming grapes can improve important risk factors associated with heart disease, in a population that is already at higher risk."
