Frieda is a Foodie!

She is a non-vegetarian, adores Italian cuisine and especially seafood such as seafood risotto with porcinis is a favourite.

Amongst Indian cuisine favs Manglorean seafood dishes and sukha chicken captivate her taste buds for sure.

She is a water drinker and always begins her day with several glasses of H2O.  For lunch she presers something light such as vegetables, chapattis with curd or dahl.

Her dinner choices would often be baked fish or roasted chicken and vegetables. She says she avoids rice and chapattis for dinner.  Smart girl!

She is fond of Rasmalai and also love dark chocolate.

Frieda stays fit with long walks, pilates, and yoga.

Huge mud crab at Mahesh Lunch Home, Mumbai's most famous seafood restaurant which serves Manglorean dishes.

Her fav Mumbai spots to grab a bite include Mahesh Lunch Home, Apoorva, Basilico, White, Mezzo Mezzo and almost every restaurant at the Sheraton.

Frieda reports she can cook a few things including and a mean spaghetti Arrabiata.  However, her mum and grandmom are the real cooks in the family. Sher says  "I love my naani's fish curry and mom is an expert at roast chicken and fish preparations."

A favourite weekend meal would be either some yummy sea food or a chicken dish. I have my roots in South India so instead of the regular rice and rotis, my mother makes rice pancakes and other rice preparations.

Frieda is very health concsious and likes to partake of healthy snacks.  She reports feeling quilty after eating foods containing MSG and hydrogenated fats. Bakery products give me the strongest guilt pang.

Her favourite childhood food memory is of eating a special Manglorean jackfruit vegetable with rice in my dad's quaint little house in Mangalore. My dad's mum and sister-in-law would prepare the best traditional vegetable dishes Also, I remember gorging on my aunt's onion and aloo parathas in her Noida home.

Frieda's fav comfort food is seafood. Give me dal, rice and stuffed mackerel and I will forget all my woes!

Her favourite spices include bay leaf, black pepper corns and cardamom.

She loves iced wine and also fresh fruit juices.

Her favourite foods include butter garlic calamari, shrimps, baked salmon, stuffed pomfrets, mackerels, mussels and shellfish. Apart from sea food, one dish I absolutely love is the nawabi galawati kebabs.

Freida's favourite recipe: Roast chicken and red chilly

1/2 kg broiler chicken (cut into medium sized pieces)
1 tbsp oil
3 to 4 Kashmiri chillies
Few peppercorns
1 small piece cinnamon
Few strands of saffron
1/2 tsp cumin seed powder
2 to 3 tomatoes (finely chopped)
Salt to taste

Clean and wash the chicken pieces.
Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add the chilies, peppercorns and cinnamon.
When the spices become hot, add the chicken pieces along with saffron and  cumin seed powder. Add salt and mix well. Add tomatoes and mix well. Cook on a low flame till it becomes tender and dry. Serve hot.

Freida Pinto seems quite a foodie going by her favorites. The Manglorean cuisine is such a treat. Mahesh lunch home and Apporva have been a favorite. The seafood of course is great, my hubby and I used to have a wonderful time feasting on the Neer dosas and the prawn ghassi or the chicken curry. Yummy...

For all the attempts that other big names from Bollywood have made, Frieda may just be the first to make a mark in Hollywood. The sea food at Mahesh Lunch Home is very good, but you must also try Gajali, next time you're here. I'm not alone when it comes to patronising the restaurant, it's also Sachin Tendulkar and Sanjeev Kapoor's favourite!

Freida Pinto was born in Mumbai to Sylvia Pinto, a principal of St. John’s Universal High School (Goregaon), and Frederick Pinto, a senior branch manager at the Bank of Baroda. Freida Pinto's father is from Neerude and mother from Derebail, both towns in Mangalore. Her elder sister Sharon Pinto is an associate producer on the NDTV news channel. Pinto studied at Carmel of St. Joseph School in Malad and completed her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in English Literature from St. Xavier's College, Mumbai. She currently resides in Malad, a suburb of Mumbai. She is also trained in different forms of Indian classical dance as well as Salsa. In an interview, Pinto stated that although she is "completely pure Indian", some of her ancestors were probably from Portuguese background, which explains the origin of her surname Pinto Shanti/Mary-Anne
