Shia LaBeouf's Protein Diet Gives Him 40lbs
The ‘Transformer’ hero Shia LaBeouf seems to have woken up to the benefits of protein diet, no matter, only for a film role. Gobbling up chickens, eggs, and protein shakes, the lanky actor gained 40lbs. All this for his role in the gangster film – Lawless! However, his experience was, by his own admission, “horrible.”
When Shia was asked to put on weight very quickly, to achieve a more believable physique for his portrayal as Tom Hardy’s brother, he turned to a protein diet menu. Thanks to gorging on so many eggs, chicken wings and protein shakes, he was able to gain the requisite amount of weight in a short time. Speaking about his protein diet on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno, Shia said, “Once Tom Hardy got cast, he’s a big boy and it became, ‘Are we from the same fabric of man, can I be your brother?’ Standing next to him, I felt like (singer) Josh Groban, I just felt very meek.”
Shia started shooting for the movie in February last and by the time he completed the diet and gained weight, he was feeling horrible. He said that he hated his protein diet because he was asked to wake up in the middle of the night to drink those protein shakes. Here he speaks about his days on protein diet, “I gained about 40lbs, just eating, your whole lifestyle becomes something else. Every three hours you consume, food becomes vitamins, it’s about necessity, which is gorging, it’s horrible.” He further adds, “It was protein shakes really, a lot of chicken and eggs. At night, you wake up every three hours, take the shake and wake up. It’s monotonous. You only have a certain amount of time, I had a month, two months to get here.”
What is good about this diet is that the actor depended upon natural high protein foods to make himself bulkier. Shia admits that despite bulking himself up by 40lbs, his girlfriend Karolyn Pho did not find him any more attractive. So sad!
