Movida Gifts Usain Bolt £80,000 Champagne
Jamaican ‘thunderbolt’ Usain Bolt was recently treated to the 151 Nebuchadnezzar of Armand de Brignac Champagne, also known as the “Ace of Spades”, when he went for dinner at the Movida nightclub in London’s Mayfair. The bottle of champagne costs £80,000 and it was presented to Bolt on Saturday, when he went to the club to celebrate his world record feat during the 4x100m relay.
Bolt’s Alcoholic Sojourn
Last time Bolt made news about his alcoholic adventures was when he was found chugging at coffee liqueur in January this year, during a beach party while at home. The club management seems to be aware of Bolt’s appetite for alcohol, because when he reached Movida with a group to chill, he was seated at the VIP table. Afterwards, the bottle was brought to him. Movida spokeswoman Martina Pokorna informed, “Usain Bolt was given a Nebuchadnezzar of Armand de Brignac Brut Gold NV.”
While in the VIP area, Bolt was also joined by another Jamaican sprinter Yohan Blake, who is also known as “The Beast.” Others who joined the party included boxer Amir Khan, swimmer Rebecca Adlington, and Olympic gold medalist Mo Farah. It seems that Bolt had made up his mind about partying hard that night as before coming to the Mayfair nightclub, he was also seen DJing at the Puma Yard bar in Brick Lane.
Olympic Winners & Booze
Treating Olympic winners to special drinks is something that has been making the rounds for quite a while. Just a few days ago, the Chinawhite club in Piccadilly, paired cocktails with Olympic medallists, among whom were swimmers Ryan Lochte and Chad le Clos. Chinawhite director James Spallone said, at the time, “The golden cocktail is our special creation, and we have given some away. Every night we have a presentation for the gold medalists, and it has been very well received.”
Bolt’s Twitter Run
However, what Bolt received was definitely way beyond a regular Moet and Chandon bottle. The £80,000 Champagne is in keeping with Bolt’s magnificent run, both on track and off track. Recently, after defending his 200m title successfully and winning his second Gold at the London Olympics, his Twitter handle received 80,000 tweets in a minute. A tweet announced, “@twitter Record alert! @usainbolt sets a new Olympic Games conversation record with over 80,000 TPM (tweets per minute) for his 200m victory.” Bolt was quick to reply, “@usainbolt Thanks to all my real fans and people who believe in me. I am now a living legend that’s for sure.”
Bolt's wild night out in London this Saturday was to celebrate the 3 Gold medals that he gathered at the 2012 Olympics and, obviously, it made sense to celebrate the same with an exceptional bottle of gold champagne.
