Obama's $3 Donation Call For Gala Dinner
Trust President Barack Obama to do things upfront! When it was time to ask for donations to a fundraising contest, “An Evening With Two Presidents” sweepstakes, organized by Obama 2012, the President number 44 wrote an e-mail to public seeking $3 in donation from each one of his supporters. The donors would get a chance to have dinner with Obama and former President Bill Clinton on June 4, 2012, at a Gala Dinner in New York City.
The dinner is a $35,800 per plate affair and the sweepstakes contest was launched by Obama 2012 on May 21. In his e-mail, the President played on the similarities between him and Clinton while asking the supporters to cough up three dollars.
The event will be hosted at The Waldorf Astoria hotel and it includes a performance by legendary Jon Bon Jovi. Besides the Gala Dinner, President Obama will also attend two more fundraisers on the day – “Barack on Broadway” at the New Amsterdam Theater on West 42nd Street and another event at the hedge-fund manager Mark Lasry’s home.
In his email, Obama wrote, “I am excited for the chance to get together with him (Clinton) again. Here’s one thing I really appreciate about President Clinton: He’s someone who doesn’t focus on ideology, but on people – what they’re going through day to day. He gets it. We share that.” Seeking funds for the dinner, Obama wrote, “If you’d like to be there, chip in $3 or whatever you can to help build this campaign, and you’ll be automatically entered for that chance.”
We only hope that the dinner would serve Obama’s favorite cowboy chili!
