Steve Jobs Posthumous Gift To Apple Employees!
Steve Jobs knew that when you are running the biggest computer company in the country, you also need to worry about where your employees will be dining. That is why Apple is concerned that its employees, who visit various restaurants and eateries while dining out, cannot talk freely about their projects, research and business for the fear of being overheard. Since the computer giant doesn’t want anybody to do that, it has come up with an ideal solution – a private, off-campus eatery. The best part is that it was Jobs himself who submitted this plan to the "Cupertino City Council" before he passed away last year of pancreatic cancer. Read the rest of the story here...
1) Safety for Apple Employees
Since restaurants are the places where most of the ideas, projects, plans or business decisions can fall in the “wrong ears”, it is important that necessary precautions be taken to safeguard the business interests. Now since Apple can’t ask its employees to stop dining out, it has come up with plans for its own eatery, which would have all the facilities required by the Apple staff.
2) Permission Granted
Apple’s director of real estate facilities Dan Whisenhunt, who met the Cupertino Planning Commission (CPC) recently, said, “We like to provide a level of security so that people and employees can feel comfortable talking about their business, their research, and whatever project they’re engineering without fear of competition sort of overhearing their conversations. That is a real issue today in Cupertino because we’ve got other companies here in our same business.”
3) The Apple Eatery
Apple has got permission from the CPC to construct its eatery at the northeast corner of Bandley and Alves Drives. This 21,468-square-foot restaurant will have two stories and it will house a cafeteria, courtyard, meeting rooms, and lounges. The cafeteria staff will be restricted to the second floor only. With a parking space for 70 vehicles, the new private restaurant will mostly cater to 13,000 Apple employees walking in from Apple’s satellite offices in the vicinity. In order to facilitate easy commute for its employees to this private eatery, Apple has also set up shuttle service on hourly basis, which can be doubled if need arises.
While the work is yet to begin on the private eatery, Apple is already planning a second such restaurant for its employees. So, if you want to eavesdrop on Apple employees, you will have to find a job at any of these private restaurants! All we hope is that the restaurant will serve Apple’s geekiest cakes too!
