Perhaps the eternal question that torments every mother is how to make you child eat right and understand the significance of a balanced diet and nutrition.

Robyn Openshaw shares some tips and pointers on how to do just that:

• Educate your kids about the food that they eat on a day to day basis. E.g. ‘Where does bread come from? What is it made of? What good does it do for the body?’
• Work with your kids in the kitchen and perhaps even in the garden (if you have one and grow your own vegetables). Having kids to help out is a fun and easy way fro them to learn about food, by handling them and learning where they actually come from. It is a good way of spending quality time and educating them.
• Make the process fun and enjoyable! Make up innovative ways to present lunch and again have the kids help out. Let them use their own imagination and ask for their help to prepare lunch or dinner menu. Give them the ingredients that you choose and ask them what they would want to help prepare. This is enjoyable, fun and you get lots of help in the kitchen too!
