  • Bachu- This is a herb that has been used traditionally to manage bladder problems. Its use improves blood and nutrient supply to the bladder so that it functions better. It also has natural anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties that are useful.


  • Cleavers- It soothes and reduces the irritation in the lining of the urinary bladder. The leaves are made into a juice which is good to consume everyday.


  • Horsetail- The extracts in this herb are natural anti diuretic agents that promote  good flow of urine and do not let it accumulate for long periods of time. This lowers risk of developing a urinary infection. Tablets, capsules and liquid extracts are available.


  • Turmeric- It has an active antioxidant called curcumin that reduces inflammation and is known to kill harmful microbes inside the body. It is safe to use as a flavoring and coloring agent in food. Up to half a teaspoon can be used everyday without any side effects. Adding a pinch of black pepper along with turmeric helps in better absorption of curcumin.


  • Alpinia Oxyphilla- This is a Chinese herb that contains many essential oils which reduce inflammation in the bladder and decrease the strong and persistant urge to pass urine. It is also a natural remedy for bladder infection.


It is to be remembered that there is not enough scientific data to guarantee the effectiveness of the above listed herbs. They are traditional treatments but are definitely worth a try. Talk to your doctor before you begin the use of herbs for an overactive bladder.
