Home Remedies For Poison Ivy

  • Aloe vera- It grows well in a pot and is a useful herb to have. The moisture rich gel forms a protective coating on the skin and soothes it. It also reduces inflammation and helps the blisters heal.

  • Peppermint oil- Dilute this in a little coconut oil and apply on skin for faster healing. The mint oil reduces itch and  fats in the coconut oil help in repair of the skin.

  • Tea- Tea leaves are rich in antioxidants that help to regenerate skin naturally. The tannins in tea are released on boiling and work towards reducing pain and redness. Make a tea concentrate and cool it. Apply it with a cotton ball on the areas that are affected.

  • Honey- This has been used since centuries for wound healing and a thin layer applied on the blister reduces the allergic reaction and the healing time. Use pure honey for best results.

  • Witch Hazel- Use witch hazel because of the natural anti inflammatory properties it possesses which helps to dry and heal the scabs. Natural witch hazel extracts are available in the market

  • Jewel weed- It helps to negate the side effects caused by toxins in the poison ivy plant. It prevents the rash from getting severe. A paste of the leaves can be applied directly on the rash.
