This happens because of eating highly refined sugars in the form of table sugar (sucrose), corn sugar (dextrose) and high-fructose corn syrup through bread, mayonnaise, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, ketchup, breakfast cereal and a lot of microwave meals.

Increases weight: The very common risk of increased sugar consumption is weight gain. This happens because excessive sugar intake upsets the blood-sugar balance in the body and raises insulin level. This process gives way to weight gain and is further linked to cardiovascular diseases. When you eat a sweet high in sugar, your body creates lots of fat and it accumulates on your thighs.

Affects immune system: Sugar in the form of glucose, if taken along with Vitamin C, to cure common cold, for eg, will bar vitamin’s entry into body cells. Insulin more or less controls the body’s immune system and excessive intake of sweet can increase the insulin levels, which in turn supresses the immune system. This means a weakened defense system against bacterial infection.

Depression: One of the notable risks of increased sugar consumption in children is a low-down on their activity. You may also see concentration difficulties, anxiety, hyperactivity and crankiness among children eating chocolates in excess.

Affects Mineral Relationship: Sugar affects mineral relationship in the body and upset its mineral balance. Excess of it can cause deficiency of copper and chromium, and may also interfere with absorption of calcium and magnesium, which are essential elements for growing children.

Damages kidney: Sugar on a habitual basis can cause mood swings, aggravate asthma, provoke personality changes and lead to nervous disorders. It can also cause hypoglycemia and kidney damage.

Increased sugar consumption bad for heart: Excessive sugar hurries heart disease and reduces helpful high-density cholesterol (HDLs) and promotes harmful cholesterol. It can also cause pre-mature aging, wrinkles and grey hair.

Causes tooth decay: Another risk of having sugar in excess is the formation of plaque, which attracts cavity-causing bacteria. This is the main reason of tooth decay among children. Children must avoid eating chocolates. Honey, a natural sweetener, may also cause tooth decay if taken in excess. It also weakens eyesight.

Can cause cancer: Cancer cells get nourishment from sugar, hence, it plays a crucial role in development of cancer of ovaries, breast, prostate, pancreas, lung, stomach and gallbladder. It can also lead to acidic digestive tract, increased risk of Crohn's disease and indigestion.
