According to Dr. Nicholas Perricone, a famous dermatologist and writer, acai is the most popular super food in the entire world.
The acai berry is obtained from the acai palm trees that grow in Central and South America. Natives have eaten this delicious fruit for generations now. The acai berry comes from the family of the blueberry, cranberry and other similar dark purple fruits which offer a powerful antioxidant punch. The antioxidant activity is known for preventing disease, like heart disease and cancer, which is caused by oxidative stress.
Acai pulp contains more antioxidant content as compared to blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries or cranberries, but no definitive studies have proven that acai prevents heart disease or cancer. Despite of the lack of such definitive studies, the acai is certainly a healthy addition to any diet.
