Yes, its true, our all time favorite Mexican dips, salsa and guacamole, are responsible for the most cases of food poisoning and other food borne illnesses! A 2010 study released by the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention declared this depressing truth.
It seems that 1 out of every 25 food borne illnesses that broke out from 1998 to 2008 can be traced back to these delicious dips. The illnesses are a result of using not so fresh and often bacteria infested ingredients like avocados, peppers, tomatoes, and cilantro In addition, both Salsa and guacamole are made in large batches and served to a lot of people, so the presence of even tiny amounts of salmonella and other bacteria can make the whole dish affect a large number of people.
So I guess its time that you guys get a little more choosy about your orders and the restaurants at which you order your favorite Mexican dips!!. I know even I can't do without these yummy dishes but I guess it doesn't hurt to learn how to make your own homemade Salsa and Guacamolel!
