Gastritis Diet Guidelines & Menu Choices
Gastritis is a painful condition of stomach, often accompanied by belching, bloating, nausea, etc. Therefore, doctors prescribe foods that are mild, non-acidic and easy to digest, so that the gut is not irritated. Fiber rich foods should be consumer more while fried, carbonated, caffeinated and spicy foods should be strictly avoided. However, just knowing that is not enough. You need a detailed list of guidelines for someone who suffers from gastritis, be it you or someone in your family.
Here is that list:
1. Eat food that is rich in flavonoids – like apples, cranberries, onion, celery and green tea.
2. Your diet should be rich in antioxidant-rich foods like fruits and vegetables.
3. Eat a lot of foods that are high in calcium and Vitamin B. You can choose broccoli, raisins, and dark, leafy greens.
4. Avoid refined sugar and use unrefined substitutes such as honey and maple syrup.
5. Also avoid refined and processed foods like pasta and white bread. Eat as much whole grain variety as you can.
6. Don’t eat too much red meat, instead, concentrate on tofu, seeds, nuts, fish and beans for your protein fulfillment.
7. Trans-fatty acids are a big NO, especially in baked and fried form such as cookies, French fries, onion rings and cakes.
8. You should also avoid beverages like coffee, soda and alcohol as far as possible.
9. You should consume enough water daily, or, at least, half as much water as your body weight in ounces. For instance, if your body weight is 100 lbs., you should drink at least 50 oz. of water.
10. Regular exercise is as important as proper diet to keep your gut safe. You can take up walking as a form of moderate exercise, five times a week.
