There are some fruits for asthma patients that have worked wonders in controlling its symptoms. Their intake in proper forms has proven to be very effective in decreasing the severity of this respiratory disease. Asthma patients often suffer from breathlessness, tightness of chest, wheezing and cough if they eat something that causes allergies. However, consumption of fruits like figs, Indian gooseberry and lemon helps in reducing the incidence of asthma attack.

Fruits are natural foods rich in antioxidants which act as a protective agent of the body. Antioxidants fight off the pollutants which are one of the causative factors of asthma. In addition, most of the fruits are a rich source of vitamin C which again protects the body from oxidative damages caused by free radicals and thereby, reduces the severity of the disease. Various research studies have revealed that eating fresh fruits rich in vitamin E and beta carotene strengthens the lungs and aids in its proper functioning.

Figs are very valuable fruits for asthma as they drain off the phlegm and relive the patient from breathlessness. It also forms one of the important home remedy for asthma if taken regularly for two months. Three to four dry figs should be cleaned thoroughly and soaked overnight. Next morning, these soaked figs should be taken along with water in an empty stomach.
Asthma patients should regularly take five grams of amla or Indian gooseberry along with one tablespoon of honey for easing out asthma symptoms.
Many studies on asthma and fruits have proved that lemon is very beneficial in curing asthma. Juice of one lemon mixed in a glass of water should be given to the patients along with meals; it helps in the treatment of asthma.
