Fad diets attract many who want to lose a large amount of weight quickly. Even though most of them do not have any scientific basis and many are misleading, let us take a look at the latest top 10 fad diets doing the rounds.


  1. Apple Cider Vinegar Diet – apple cider is believed to aid weight loss if 1-3 teaspoons of it is consumed before and after every meal.
  2. Three Day Diet – this diet lasts for three days during which a specific mix of food is consumed which increases body metabolism and hence leads to a faster rate of fat burn.

  3. Lemonade Diet – abstinence from solid food and plain water constitutes this diet. Person has to drink 6-12 glasses of lemonade mixture containing lemon, cayenne pepper and maple syrup.

  4. Three Day Hot Dog Diet – believed to promote a weight loss of 10 pounds over three days, this type of fad diets involve eating hot dogs, a spoonful of peanut butter and a cup of vanilla ice cream during the entire course of day.

  5. Hollywood Diet – among the fad diets, this diet allows no food. The person drinks only formulated juice believed to burn fat faster, for 2 complete days. The juice is supplemented with required amount of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins etc aiding in weight loss.

  6. Cabbage Soup Diet – eat and drink cabbage soup alone for a period of seven days.

  7. Atkins Diet – high protein-high fat fad diets where carbohydrates are added back slowly.

  8. Cereal Diet – replace two meals with bowls of cereal and see loss of 5 pounds in two weeks.

  9. Negative Calorie Diet – involves consumption of food that requires more calories to be digested than it contains.

  10. Grapefruit Diet – involves eating grapefruit and drinking its juice with every meal.


These top 10 diets may seem attractive but a good balanced diet with regular exercise would help you maintain a healthy weight better.
