Mesoglea is the gelatinous substance found between the inner and outer layers of jelly fish. Here are some intresting facts about how to use mesoglea in your daily diet.


Mesoglea makes up most of the bodies of jelly fish, comb jellies and certain primitive sea creatures in the Phylum Cnidarias. It provides these sea creatures structural support in water, as they lack bones or similar means of support. Mesoglea is a gel with high water content, so these creatures tend to collapse on land. 


Most culinary dishes use Mesoglea when jelly fish is the primary ingredient. 


Mesoglea in daily diet can be used in salads, sushi, tempura and stir-fries. 


Salads: Salads are a way of using Mesoglea in your daily diet. This daily diet is famous in China and in other Asian countries. A salad can be prepared using mesoglea, cucumbers, peanuts, and various other meats, including other type of sea food. Mesoglea adds a pungent flavor and a crunchy texture to salads. 


Sushi:  Sushi is another example of using Mesoglea in your daily diet. This is a main dish in Japan. People in Japan have recently begun to eat mesoglea in sushi form. Strips of reconstituted Mesoglea are rolled into traditional sushi rolls. This dish is frequently treated with soy sauce and rice wine vinegar.

This daily diet dish can be prepared by soaking mesoglea overnight in cool water. Mesoglea can be marinated in any number of sauces like soy sauce, fish sauce and rice wine vinegars.
