Twinkies made this man lose 27 pounds! It is perhaps the most happening news for the junk food loving people of the nation. Mark Haub, the professor of Human Nutrition at Kansas State University, has lost around 30 lbs body mass in 10 weeeks just by staying on Twinkies -   the favorite sugary snack cakes available on the vending machines or at your local deli shops. Actually, the other day, while I was surfing through the TV channels, I found this news to be shown at a renowned news channel and to my utter surprise; I noticed this man lost 27 pounds on a Twinkies diet. Does it sound unbelievable to you?


 


But, this is not all; you will be almost dumb stuck, when you learn about his dietary routine. Other than Twinkies, he used to consume Nutty bars, sugary cereals, Doritos chips, Oreos and powdered donuts, to get a variation in his regular meals. Till today, according to our common knowledge of dieting, we used to consider these junk foods as a strict ‘no-no’ for maintaining the body shape. However, Haub proved this to be wrong. Although, his regular menu included some vegetables, multivitamin supplement and protein drinks, but that was only a small portion of his daily diet.


 


Being a researcher for the subject of dieting, he wanted to prove that in case of weight loss, pure calories counting is what matters most, instead of the nutritional value of food. For those 10 weeks, he controlled his calorie intake to be within 1,800 calories per day. In normal circumstances, he is supposed to consume around 2,600 calories in a daily basis. By consuming less calorie; he was able to burn out additional fat from his body and thus became successful in his experiment by losing 27 lbs. As a result, his BMI value dropped to 24.9 from 28.8. This unconventional dieting also gave rise to another unconventional outcome. It increased the HDL or the good cholesterol in his body by 20% and reduced the LDL or the bad cholesterol by 20%. The level of triglycerides also got reduced by 39% as an aftermath of this diet.

However, despite his success in losing weight by following the junk diet, he does not recommend this to anybody else. In his opinion, "I'm not geared to say this is a good thing to do. I'm stuck in the middle. I guess that's the frustrating part. I can't give a concrete answer. There's not enough information to do that."
