Health Benefits Of Clam Consumption During Pregnancy:

  • Undercooked clams may cause seafood-borne illness and so they should be avoided altogether during pregnancy.
  • Clams being collected from the coastal sides, are susceptible to contamination by the chemical pollutants present in sea, which in turn, may cause harm to health of the expecting mothers.
  • Raw clams can be contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio vulnificus, which can lead to allergies and serious illness in people with underlying medical problems. And so it is better not to eat raw clams when pregnant.


Clams are of course nutritious and tasty shell foods. But enjoy eating clams with the consent of your gynecologist, in order to avoid complications during pregnancy.
