Healthy hair diet

Vitamins: Popeye the Sailor Man is not a great ambassador for spinach. Because a spinach-eater is unlikely to sport bald pate like Popeye does. Spinach is a wonderful source of vitamin A and C that helps the production of sebum, the oily substance produced by the hair follicles that gives the shine to your hair. Moreover, vitamins promote healthy scalp which is essential for good hair growth. Whole grains and carrots too are excellent sources of vitamins.

Omega-3 fatty acids: There is nothing to beat Omega-3 fatty acids in promoting good hair growth. Salmon and flax seeds are good source of Omega-3 fatty acids. Deficiency of these fatty acids can lead to dry scalp and unhealthy and brittle hair.

Calcium: Did you hear me say calcium is good for hair growth? Well, then it’s anybody’s guess that nothing could beat milk and milk products like yogurt and cheese in its calcium content. Apart from dairy products, greens too are good sources of calcium.

Iron and Zinc: Zinc is a trace mineral found in the body and plays an important part in bodily functions like cell reproduction, hormonal balance, and proper absorption of vitamins and minerals into the body. On the other hand, iron is a mineral that produces haemoglobin in the blood. Deficiency of haemoglobin would lead to unhealthy and brittle hair.  Oysters, beans, greens, whole grains and nuts are excellent sources of iron and zinc.  Beef and lamb too contain zinc.

Protein: Chicken or eggs? The answer is both. Both are storehouses of protein and it doesn’t matter which one you prefer, both will ensure a lustrous mane that you can flaunt with pride. Apart from this, eggs contain vitamin B-12 and biotin which are both beauty enhancers. Vegetarians, there is always legumes for your rescue.

This is precisely the kind of diet that you should take to ensure healthy hair. Mix and match these foods or at least ensure that you have at least two items from this diet every day. This healthy hair diet promises to erase all your hair woes. So, who’s complaining about bad hair day here?
